“You are BRAVER than you believe, STRONGER than you seem, SMARTER than you think, and LOVED more than you’ll ever know.” -Christopher Robin

I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to San Francisco at the age of 15. High school was no simple task for a new immigrant even in a diverse city. My parents’ belief in higher education afforded me the opportunity to become the first to finish college and achieve doctorate degrees. Lessons learned while overcoming adversity and challenges proved to be the building blocks for my journey from Asian immigrant to living the American dream. My life experiences have strengthened my believe in Steve Jobs’ wise words, “Do not waste time living someone else’s life and don’t be trapped by dogma, which is the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.” Most importantly, “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” The creation of our new and innovative surgical wellness center springs from my need to give back and my desire to revolutionize surgical care in our community. I am honored to work alongside my passionate OSW team members who share my dream and love for our patients and our community.

More About Me

I graduated summa cum laude from California State University in Fresno, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry. Following my undergraduate studies, I spent seven years in scientific research. At University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, I earned a Master of Science in biochemistry.  At Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine in Portland, I obtained  a Ph.D. in molecular microbiology and immunology and also completed medical and general surgical training. My graduate studies at OHSU resulted in the development of a patented cellular system to study lymphoma.  In Grants Pass, Oregon, I finished a one-year rural surgery fellowship and gained broad surgical experience in general, breast, orthopedic, trauma and obstetrics/gynecologic surgery.

Certified by The American Board of Surgery, I participate in three national surgical quality registries, including:  The Mastery of Breast Cancer Program , The Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative, and  The American College of Surgeons, Surgeon Specific Registry. I am also published in several scientific journals and have presented at scientific symposiums and medical meetings, including  The National Institutes of Health.

Recipient of numerous awards, including the PeaceHealth Medical Center Guardian Angel Award, I try to give back whenever I can. I was the physician speaker at the opening ceremony for the American Cancer Society’s 2016 Relay For Life event; and I have served as PeaceHealth’s spokesperson for Susan G.
